S2000 Rally Ypres Florian Gonon

Florian Gonon and Sandra Arlettaz will make their first appearance in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in a Super 2000 car when he contests the Geko Ypres Rally in a Peugeot 207 S2000 .
Gonon, finished second in last season’s IRC Production Cup in a Subaru, is tackling three rounds of the IRC in 2012 with the Saintéloc Racing-Mister Auto team.

He said: “I’m just a privateer. I’m coming to Ypres for the third time as my main sponsor, Annie Spiers, is Belgian. The route is very specialised. Compared to the mountains I have at home in Switzerland, it’s very different! I don’t know the Peugeot very well at all. I only got to discover it recently at home, but I’ve only just had 100 kilometres or so of experience. I’m here for the driving of course, but also for the atmosphere. I love the fact that this town gives itself entirely over to the rally for the week.” www.ircseries.com

Verbier – Today we had the final 2 rally stages of the Rally of the Valais

Verbier SS13 and SS17
Verbier SS13 La Tzoumaz to Les Shlérondes (just passed La Chaux)
Verbier SS17 La Tzoumaz to Verbier Carrefour

SS 13 started this morning with most people heading to watch the rally at La Ruinettes. Not saying it was popular but I had to queue for 20 minutes to get on a lift.

Now all was going well until we said the fatal words, we should stand over there!

Yes, the next car went straight off the road disappearing down the mountain. Now lucky for the driver he straightened the car up (yes that’s turn the car while it was skidding off the mountain to point down the mountain so it didn’t role all the way to Le Chable. The picture below shows the cars skid marks where the car fell off the mountain (note I said the cars skid marks!!)

Now the car was fine, the underwear is in doubt (I’m told), so with the help of the crowd they got the car going and the driver tried to drive the car all the way to the finish on the little footpath to La Chaux below the main road !

For the final stage we went to Croix de Croir to watch the rally.

The amasing Annie Spiers rally team (Verbier) with the Swiss rally champions Florian and Sandra in action in last years Rallye du Valais

With the rally coming to Verbier 3 times this year keep you eyes open for this car during this years rally (27th – 29th October)

The 52nd Rallye International du Valais features just over 260 kilometres of special stages, most of them familiar to the regular visitors of the most important event in Swiss motor sport but with its traditional amount of new things.

The race will begin on Thursday 27 October and will draw to an end on Saturday 29 October at the CERM (Centre d’Expositions et de Réunions de Martigny), which hosts the service park.

At the top in the hierarchy of international events thanks to its commendable, well trained organisation, the Rallye International du Valais offers first class infrastructures. This year, in addition to the European and Swiss championships, as well as the 2WD European Cup, it counts towards the Citroën Racing Trophy, the Ford Racing Trophy, the Renault Clio R3 Pirelli Swiss Trophy and the Renault Twingo R1 Pirelli Swiss Trophy.
