Verbier’s Phillipe Roux sports team night out ice karting with Karting Extreme Verbier.

The guys and girls from Phillipe Roux Sports booked their end of season fun with Karting Extreme Verbier. Now, this was always going to be a competitive night, with some of the local rally/ski champions working with Philliple Roux Sports.

Hot favourite to win the night’s racing was Phillipe Roux and his co pilot Mélanie Roux, or Mike Coppens sand his co pilot Christophe Roux (Normally found racing a Citroen DS3), and yes I had to have a race with them…

With the practise session over, it was going to be a close race between Phillipe and Mike, but the seasoned rally driver Phillipe Roux set the fastest lap of the night, much to Mike’s frustration. Phillipe did a 20.020 lap and somehow didn’t spin during any of the races (watch the video below to see the race action).

The lap record for the Ice rink is help by Florian Gonon with a time of 19.20…

WRC Sebastian Loeb racing at Karting Extreme Verbier

Citroen’s World Rally Champion Sebastian Loeb made a visit to Karting Extreme Verbier.

Half term in Verbier and we have a very special WRC World champion racing in Verbier St Bernard, yes that’s the 9 times WRC World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb fresh from rally Sweden.

Now that’s not something you get to see every day, a multiple World Rally Champion racing our Extreme ice karts with friends here in Verbier….

The Verbier ice kart race night started with the normal practise session in our Extreme Ice karts, followed by a few races for the group, in the dark!!!

Sebastian Loeb is the one on top of our 4 meter high banked corner (above).

We attached a Gopro to Seb’s karts so we could see up close how a WRC champion drives our ice karts at night time.

Race 1 Sebastian started from the back of the pack and worked his way through the group to win the race setting his best lap time of 21.521 (the ice was soft from all the sun so that lap time is good for the conditions). The Karting Extreme Verbier lap record is 21.420 by Kev (the owner of Karting Extreme Verbier)..The fastest public driver so far this winter is Kevin Gaudin 21.871

Race 2 Sebastian started form the front row, and soon started pulling away but a spin on the second lap on our 4 meter high banked corner cost Sebastian dearly (no super rally rules here) Seb rejoined the race in last place and started working through the pack. As the chequered flag went down Sebastian Loeb finished in second place with Sebastian’s friend taking the win.

Rallye International du Valais Day 2

End of day two in the Rallye International du Valais sees the Verbier based Annie Spiers Rallye team with Florian Gonon and Sandra in first place by 17.7 seconds with one day left in the rally.

The end of day two at the Rallye International du Valais sees the service park move from Sion to Martigny (CERM) in preparation for the local rally stages. Bruson, Verbier, Sembrancher, Champsec, Saxon, Croix de Coeur, Levron, Col du Lein , La Chaux, Le Chable and La Tzoumaz.

The weather forecast for Saturday’s Rallye is cold -6 to -9 with snow!! which will make the rally over Croix de Coeur a tad interesting. Last year TeleVerbier opened the lifts and charged 10 chf to get you up the hill, also this year La Dahu, one of the sponsors of Florian’s rally car, will be open as well.

Tyres – For ERC rally events they are only allowed to change tyres in the service park (Martigny CERM). So local knowledge and luck will play a huge part in doing well in the Verbier stages.

Now Pirelli appear to know something about tyre choice for Saturday’s rally around the Valais..Or maybe they have been watching the Perfomance Verbier’s Blog??

Retour au pays

Après leur campagne en Intercontinental Rally Challenge aux quatre coins de l’Europe,

Florian Gonon et Sandra Arlettaz sont de retour à domicile cette fin de semaine pour

disputer le Rallye du Valais. Cette épreuve du championnat d’Europe verra les

concurrents s’affronter sur plus de 290 km d’épreuves chronométrées. Au vu de la liste

de départ la bataille s’annonce intense avec 15 voitures S2000 présentes.

Florian et Sandra nourrissent des ambitions légitimes sur ces routes qu’ils connaissent

bien et où ils ont réalisé souvent d’excellents résultats.

A la veille du départ, Florian se montrait confiant et analysait avec beaucoup de

pragmatisme la course à venir. Il avouait avoir toutes les cartes en mains pour réussir

une belle performance sur ses terres ; il connaît désormais bien la Peugeot 207 S2000

mise à disposition par Saintéloc Racing qui lui fournit une voiture au top. Il se sentait à

l’aise sur ces routes mais avouait aussi que le rallye sera long et que pour atteindre le

podium, il faudra éviter crevaisons, problèmes mécaniques et erreurs de pilotage.

Le 53e Rallye International du Valais débute ce jeudi 25 avec trois spéciales dans la

région de Sion (32 km) sur la rive droite du Rhône, avant de s’intensifier vendredi avec

sept secteurs chronométrés sur la rive gauche (112 km) et de s’achever samedi après six

longues spéciales dans la région de Martigny-Verbier (149 km).

The Rallye International du Valais (RIV) rally will take place from 25-27 October 2012.

The Rallye International du Valais (RIV) counts towards European Championship (ERC), Swiss Rally Championship, Swiss Rally Cup and the Swiss Junior Rally Championship.

The Rallye International du Valais rally is based in Sion for day one and two, then it moves to the CERM in Martigny. The opening stages will be held around Sion, Crans Montana.

Verbier has two stages in the 2012 RIV – ES 12 Starts in Médières (Verbier) across Route de Soleil – Les Creux – Plan Varzay – La Chaux – Les Ruinettes (Verbier) heading towards Col de la Croix de Coeur – And finishing by La Tzoumaz.

The final stage of the Rallye International du Valais starts in the ski resort of Verbier St Bernard (ES 16).

ES 16 Starts in Médières (Verbier) across Route de Soleil – Les Creux – Plan Varzay – La Chaux – Les Ruinettes – And finishes by Bar 1936 in Verbier.

For the locals looking at the map yes, they are racing along Route de Soleil.

The Rallye International du Valais is predominantly filled by Swiss drivers. With several local Verbier teams/drivers.

Verbier – New medical centre proposal

One of the local radio stations is reporting that plans are being discussed to develop a new all year round medical care centre in, or around Verbier.

The plans are in their infancy but it’s a step in the right direction for Verbier. Verbier only has proper medical cover during the winter months, for the summer time we have to rely on the Martigny hospital or for real emergencies Sion hospital which is a 40 minute turbo blast in a Subaru when that emergency call comes in!!! (Though I may have done it a tad faster when I got that call)…

RTS-CH – “This new centre will help solve the recurring problem of medical care today assured in Verbier 24-hour only during winter and summer seasons.” This is a very important goal because it is our duty to ensure the safety of our people and of some 30,000 guests during peak winter periods,” said Christophe Dumoulin.”

Bagnes capitale de la raclette

As Verbier starts to close down for the summer there is at least one more big weekend in the Bagnes. Yes the allmighty Cheese fest in Le Chable!!

The all importanat date is - 22.09.2012 – 23.09.2012

If you’ve never done the cheese fest make sure you do it it’s a blast. The streets of Le Chable are closed, all the local wines/cheese stalls are set up, and last year there was a bus to get you back up the hill, or you can stay down in Le Chable and party through the night and get a lift back in the morning!!

You may even get to see Andy Beale and Rosi Pickard and Guy Ordway from Performance Verbier singing along to the Cheesy songs!! (and yes Rosi I have the video of you dancing in your Swiss dress, let’s say 50 Facebook likes and i’ll add it!!!
