Verbier Cow Fighting 20th 21st April 2013

The end of the season approaches here in Verbier, but one of the best days out is the annual trip to the cow fighting down is Orsieres.

Verbier end of season

Now don’t worry this is not man vs cow, this is cow vs cow (no knives, no horses, no hair pulling) . And as this is a Swiss event there are more wine stalls, cheese stands than cows, all at valais prices!

Now to get there….

Option 1 Cable car to Le Chable – Train to Orsieres  (ok you change at Sembrancher), but time the trip back if you want the last cable car back to Verbier (or jump on the bus from Le  Chable to Verbier)

Option 2 Get a group together phone MayTaxi….

Option 3 Drive to Orsieres – Down the hill to Sembrancher, turn left as if you are going to the Grand St Bernard, after 15 minutes turn off to Orsieres.  (but remember this is a Swiss day out slugging wine and cheese).

Option 4 Sit at home playing the PS 3

Phillipe Roux Sports Verbier Ice Karting

Verbier’s Phillipe Roux sports team night out ice karting with Karting Extreme Verbier.

The guys and girls from Phillipe Roux Sports booked their end of season fun with Karting Extreme Verbier.  Now, this was always going to be a competitive night, with some of the local rally/ski champions working with Philliple Roux Sports.

Hot favourite to win the night’s racing was Phillipe Roux and his co pilot Mélanie Roux, or Mike Coppens sand his co pilot Christophe Roux (Normally found racing a Citroen DS3), and yes I had to have a race with them…

With the practise session over, it was going to be a close race between Phillipe and Mike, but the seasoned rally driver Phillipe Roux set the fastest lap of the night, much to Mike’s frustration. Phillipe did a 20.020 lap and somehow didn’t spin during any of the races (watch the video below to see the race action).

The lap record for the Ice rink is help by Florian Gonon with a time of 19.20…

Official press release

WRC Sebastian Loeb racing at Karting Extreme Verbier

Citroen’s World Rally Champion Sebastian Loeb made a visit to Karting Extreme Verbier.

Karting Extreme Verbier - WRC Loeb

Half term in Verbier and we have a very special WRC World champion racing in Verbier St Bernard, yes that’s the 9 times WRC World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb fresh from rally Sweden.

Sebastian Leob at Karting Extreme Verbier

Now that’s not something you get to see every day, a multiple World Rally Champion racing our Extreme ice karts with friends here in Verbier….

The Verbier ice kart race night started with the normal practise session in our Extreme Ice karts, followed by a few races for the group, in the dark!!!

WRC Sebastian Leob at Karting Extreme Verbier

Sebastian Loeb is the one on top of our 4 meter high banked corner (above).

Sebastian Leob at Karting Extreme Verbier

We attached a Gopro to Seb’s karts so we could see up close how a WRC champion drives our ice karts at night time.

Race 1 Sebastian started from the back of the pack and worked his way through the group to win the race setting his best lap time of 21.521 (the ice was soft from all the sun so that lap time is good for the conditions). The Karting Extreme Verbier lap record is 21.420 by Kev (the owner of Karting Extreme Verbier)..The fastest public driver so far this winter is Kevin Gaudin 21.871

Race 2 Sebastian started form the front row, and soon started pulling away but a spin on the second lap on our 4 meter high banked corner cost Sebastian dearly (no super rally rules here) Seb rejoined the race in last place and started working through the pack.  As the chequered flag went down Sebastian Loeb finished in second place with Sebastian’s friend taking the win.

Huge thanks to Annie for organising the night…

Good luck with the rest of the season Seb.

Verbier | Disabled Ice Karting night at Karting Extreme Verbier

Last week we witnessed something rather special at Karting Extreme Verbier….. Yes a group of disabled skiers booked an evening of ice karting with us!!

Now we had a million questions about running the night, but we can report what a sucess the night was with these guys!

Pictured below are the guys and girls with their guides (Guides in Red).
Karting_Extreme_Verbier Kart sur Glace

Now seven of guys are blind!. Yes Blind!!!

How do they do extreme ice karting you ask?  Simple, using the same technique for skiing and sledging, they have a little radio and the guide gives them directions.

What a great night with one of the guys setting a lap of 19.990, the lap record is 19.200.

So the next time you or I complain about bad weather, or a bruise think about what these guys do with their disabilities..

Huge thanks to Harry and the boys/Girls for helping run the night.

Rallye International du Valais Day 2

End of day two in the Rallye International du Valais sees the Verbier based Annie Spiers Rallye team with Florian Gonon and Sandra in first place by 17.7 seconds with one day left in the rally.

Rallye International du Valais

The end of day two at the Rallye International du Valais sees the service park move from Sion to Martigny (CERM) in preparation for the local rally stages. Bruson, Verbier, Sembrancher, Champsec, Saxon, Croix de Coeur, Levron, Col du Lein , La Chaux, Le Chable and La Tzoumaz.

The weather forecast for Saturday’s Rallye is cold -6 to -9 with snow!! which will make the rally over Croix de Coeur a tad interesting.  Last year TeleVerbier opened the lifts and charged 10 chf to get you up the hill, also this year La Dahu, one of the sponsors of Florian’s rally car, will be open as well.

Tyres – For ERC rally events they are only allowed to change tyres in the service park (Martigny CERM). So local knowledge and luck will play a huge part in doing well in the Verbier stages.

Now Pirelli appear to know something about tyre choice for Saturday’s rally around the Valais..Or maybe they have been watching the Perfomance Verbier’s Blog??

However Little Ellie had the final say on tyre choice for today stages in the Rallye International du Valais .
